Lust and Lollipops - Lola Glass

Image
After stepping in and saving the world, the Fae have one request, that they are allowed to mate human women as female Fae are rare. A big ask, but yeah, I get it. Some humans have indicators in their blood that will allow the mating, and transformation into fae, to happen so it makes sense for a survival of the species kind of deal. However, quite a lot of humans find the idea offputting, so the “The Society” (leaders of the Fae) decide to make it more appealing and turn it all into a reality tv show. Suddenly, everyone loves the fae, and the world is watching as human women find their winged mates. “The Fae Batchelorette” is incredibly popular, but some older Fae men, the ones close to fading away because they haven’t met a mate yet, are a little too volatile. They need something rougher, something more aggressive so “The Society” decide to start a new show.  Molly’s time is up. She's been chosen to take part in the next series and she really doesn’t want to go. With...

Orcs Do It Better- Michele Mills

Image
Meet cutes are usually quite wholesome, you know, grabbing the wrong takeout coffee when you’re in a rush to get to work, tripping over your own feet and landing in the middle of his puppy play date picnic. Not him performing a citizens arrest on your ex and then being dragged away in chains while he yells that you’re his bride and he will impregnate you with many sons, but here we are, and this isn’t a complaint, far from it.    It’s an interesting premise, the male (orc) love interest is basically imprisoned for the majority of the book due to the Orcish “dark of winter” condition that leaves him likely to abduct and ravish his mate rather than behave a bit more respectfully. I wouldn’t mind but I guess to integrate with humans successfully you gotta act a bit more human, especially when it comes to courting rituals. Without the ability to even be in the same room together, our mates have to find a way to communicate, to get to know each oth...

Love is Trash in Hallow's Cove - Emily Antoinette

Image
When Hayley moves to Hallow’s Cove she’s determined to find her fated mate. In fact she’s desperate. After the ultimate betrayal (catching her boss and her girlfriend in the act) she’s feeling a bit unlovable, and after countless dates that lead nowhere, that feeling is getting worse. Even her lucky panties have given up on her and they make their way to their final resting place in the dumpster outside. Until they’re “retrieved” by a rather perverted little raccoon who can’t resist the scent. Yes really. It’s a trash-panda shifter romance. Yes it’s as unhinged as it sounds. Monster enthusiasts are always looked upon as being a bit kooky when it comes to the romance genre, but we enjoy what we enjoy. I feel that that is the spirit of this book, letting the freak flag fly high. Hayley and Jake are the free spirits, the quirky ones, the ones romance books don’t usually focus on, but we get to see their funky little relationship grow despite the fact Hayley does...

The Reveal - Megan Crane

Image
In a world where monsters run the show after “revealing” themselves three years ago all anyone can do is try to survive. Winter is struggling to make ends meet, take care of her frail grandmother and worry about her brother who was lost to the high of vampire blood. Oh and she’s also an oracle who needs to work out how to save the world from further destruction. I picked up the ARC of The Reveal, though I’m not keen on anything kind of post-apocolypsy, but the blurb intrigued me enough to give it a shot. There’s no cosy love story here. It's raw and it’s brutal in its way, but a warmth also seeps in through the cracks in the little moments that normally would be so forgettable, but I guess when you’re facing death every day, the good times deserve to be remarked upon.  The myriad of characters in this book are what bring it to life though. From the monsters who help Winter, to her immediate family and new renters, there are so many different personalities...

Tusk Love - Thea Guanzon

Image
I’m no adventurer so thankfully I didn’t need to travel to Chastity’s Nook to grab a copy of “Tusk Love”. I was kindly sent one to review. It’s a little bit daunting to review a book that has been described by a reliable source as “it's the most beautiful love story you've ever heard in your entire life, basically,” but I'll give it my best shot.  First impressions were incredibly shallow. Yes, I judged a book by its cover, so shoot me, but this one needs to be looked at. From the rich artwork on the front to the adorable doodles by none other than the book's biggest fan on the inside of the jacket, it’s just so joyful. This is definitely one that I would recommend getting a physical copy of. The author obviously knows her table top roleplaying games. From page one we’re in the story, not just looking in, but fully immersed in this fantasy world. Guinevere, our heroine, is set upon by bandits, burns most of them to smithereens, and then is helped by the rather hands...

Transfixed by the Troll - Violet Loxley

Image
In Transfixed by the Troll we harken back to ye olden times, twenty years after the beast-kin came, war reigned, something worse that infuriatingly is not explained in the novella happened, differences were settled and beast-kin  became a part of the human world, not fully accepted, shunned in most places, but a part nonetheless. This story focuses on Brynne, a merchant's daughter who is bored with the average human man and wants something much more forbidden. She gets her chance when the King’s Guard travel through her small village and camp out on the outskirts. She sneaks out and meets the captain of the guard, a stunningly perfect fae. They flirt, they tease, they pour out some home truths, and then they retreat to his tent. Inevitably she was spotted heading towards the camp, outed to her village and exiled. She has tainted herself with nasty monster cock, a “defiler of her own blood” and should not be allowed near decent upstanding folk.  Godlike Fae ...
