Bigfoot's Bride - Candace Ayers

Image
I don’t know what I really expected out of life but it certainly wasn’t sitting here writing a review for what I strongly believe is a Kim Kardashian x Bigfoot romance novel.  Kiki Karaprtyan, socialite and media star, is on the run. Well, to be more precise she’s in witness protection. After testifying against a drug lord, her life is in danger and she has had to leave her glamourous life behind and hop from one crappy motel to the other to stay safe. After one of the drug lords “associates” is spotted near her current hidey hole, she gets moved, and automatically enrolled into a Mates for Monsters programme.  Gruffydd is a sweetheart sasquatch. All he wants is someone to love and share his life with, and due to the outnumbering of squatch men to women (20-1) they need to reach out to other species to find romance. The Mates for Monsters programme is perfect for this. Willing human women come and spend some time with the lonely sasquatches, and hopefully romance will b...

Riding the Centaur Lord - Evangeline Priest

I love a bit of regency romance. My first human crush was Mr Darcy in the 1995 BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, so imagine my joy when I found there was a monster romance with the same vibes I had to give it a try. I had read Priest’s contribution to the Monster’s Ball series beforehand and thoroughly enjoyed it, so was expecting the same with “Riding the Centaur Lord”.  While not set within the realms of nobility, quick wit and gorgeous outfits, this book still has the charm and flavour of the era. Our centaur Lord, having to leave the Monster’s Ball without making a match due to a family emergency stops at an inn on the way to rest, the innkeeper's daughter catches his eye and his heart. Throw in some nefarious characters, some threats to virtue, attempted kidnappings, successful kidnappings, watery pasts and a commoner who can be a better Lady to the people than those born to the role.  The spice level was higher than I expected, but not necessarily fun. A lot o...

Fangs for Nothing (Nevermore Murder Club and Smutty Book Coven) - Steffanie Holmes

The series name grabbed my attention for this book before anything else did. “Nevermore Murder Club and Smutty Book Coven.” I didn’t need to know anything else about this book before getting it and instantly started reading. A brief glance at the actual title informed me of the vampire element but I didn’t care. Monstrous romance, murders and book clubs. Winners all.  I’ll try and keep this as spoiler free as possible as with every good murder mystery, there are quite a few twists and turns. Winnie, our female main character and a decluttering expert is called to a job in a small village to tidy up a rather messy castle. Alaric, our vexing vampire, is a hoarder. Centuries of living will do that to a guy, but after isolating himself from humans and vampires alike, he has taken to filling his time with numerous hobbies, and he needs it all cleared and sorted as his mother has presumptuously organised a ball in his home.  Full disclosure, I am obsessed with hoarding tv shows, eve...

My Ogre Husband - Lyonne Riley

Image
I received an advanced copy of this book from the author.  After her failed trial marriage to a shadow demon (totally not her fault, he was an asshole) Maddie is scared to open her heart to anyone else, she can’t bear the hurt again. With some convincing from her best friend she decides to give dating one more try and meets up with Egorr. With the chemistry between them it’s not long before they tumble into a trial marriage of their own where sparks fly and perineums tear.  After she moves in with him, the rest of the story is basically bedtime shenanigans. With the aforementioned perineum incident, they have to find different ways to have some spicy fun regardless of how much Maddie wants Egorr to fuck her six ways to Sunday.  While this book is monster romance, I feel it is less a romance and more just plain monster lust.  In preparation for this arc, I read the first book in the series (My Minotaur Husband) and I must say the dif...

Dirty Deals Over Decaf - Eden Crowe

There is something irrevocably sexy about demons. You don’t really know what you’re getting yourself in for, and that can be frightening, which is all a part of the fun when you’re reading monster romance.  Lila, our female main character, is newly divorced and ready for a fresh start. After moving to a new town, she decides to celebrate, not with champagne and caviar, but with books and coffee. My kinda gal. If there was no spice in this book, I would still be incredibly invested, due to the bookshop. Housed in an old church, more books than one could read in a lifetime, coffee shop and a whole section devoted to monster romance, I’ve got a new fantasy here, minotaurs just got pushed down the list.  Ordering a decaf and a sweet treat, Lila settles down to take in her surroundings when she meets the owner of her new favourite establishment, a charming older man by the name of Azrael. As they chat and get to know each other he reveals he’s a demon, her new home is full o...

Getting it on with Gargoyles - Hazel Mack

Image
Guys, I’ve finally found it, the holy grail. A romance book where the main couple actually communicate their wants, needs and any issues or problems. I know, unbelievable right, but I swear to all the gods and monsters, it’s true. Nothing could be hotter. Right, moving on from that excitement, “Getting it on with Gargoyles” follows the story of triplets, recently orphaned and in desperate need of a girls trip. After finding a strange map in a thrift store, they follow it and head to “Ever, Massachusetts”. Idyllic, quaint and perfect in every way the girls settle in and then realise the inhabitants are not actually human. They’d probably run, if not for the first monster they meet, the gorgeous gas station owner and gargoyle, Shepherd. This book mainly focuses on Thea, though the other sisters get plenty of attention. While the map was bait for one of the other sisters, the fated-mate of what is essentially the town mayor, Shepherd has recognised that Thea is his mate, and the who...

Prey for Rabbit - Aiden Pierce

Reading this short Easter tale a bit late, but only by a week or so, so it still counts. Werewolf smut isn’t just for high days and holy days after all.  I do love a good predator/prey dynamic and it’s played out perfectly with our couple. Ruth, the bunny shifter is chosen, along with two of her burrow-mates to be the sacrifices for the local werewolf pack. Bunny blood is the only thing that can calm their “inner beasts” down so for the greater good, a few will be hunted instead of the whole burrow being at risk. In traditional cult style, most feel it is an honour to be chosen, but Ruth feels differently and won’t go down without a fight.  Carver, the werewolf, is different from his pack mates. He’s not connected with his inner wolf and doesn’t need rabbit blood to calm himself either. Well, not until he meets Ruth. He doesn’t participate in the hunt, only guiding the sacrifices to where they need to be so his packmates have the best time. He didn’t expect the rabbit f...
