Prey for Rabbit - Aiden Pierce

 

Reading this short Easter tale a bit late, but only by a week or so, so it still counts. Werewolf smut isn’t just for high days and holy days after all. 

I do love a good predator/prey dynamic and it’s played out perfectly with our couple. Ruth, the bunny shifter is chosen, along with two of her burrow-mates to be the sacrifices for the local werewolf pack. Bunny blood is the only thing that can calm their “inner beasts” down so for the greater good, a few will be hunted instead of the whole burrow being at risk. In traditional cult style, most feel it is an honour to be chosen, but Ruth feels differently and won’t go down without a fight. 

Carver, the werewolf, is different from his pack mates. He’s not connected with his inner wolf and doesn’t need rabbit blood to calm himself either. Well, not until he meets Ruth. He doesn’t participate in the hunt, only guiding the sacrifices to where they need to be so his packmates have the best time. He didn’t expect the rabbit full of rage to awaken his wolf. He didn’t expect the rabbit to kill his twin brother, hole up in his cabin and get herself off to the thought of him. He certainly didn’t expect his wolf to demand that he claim and breed this little bunny shifter instead of consuming her. 

The book is full of spice, from the moment our wolf and bunny meet (love a good hatefuck scenario) and the whole forbidden schtick is always a turn on. I will warn that this is a dark monster romance and when I say dark I mean it, from forced self pleasure on the handle of the axe that she used to kill his brother to pinning her up against the fridge and fucking her while the severed head of his brother looks on. There’s knife play, choking and plenty of threats. Oh my! While many shifter romances only have the spicy scenes when the shifters are not in their animal form, this one does to a point with them becoming human/creature hybrids rather than one or the other which I was happy to see. It’s not really monster smut unless the smut is monstrous right?

I love a good dom/sub pairing but there was no sub here. Both are dominant in their own way. Carver is a traditional manly man but with a soft side and he is more than happy to bend to Ruth’s will. Ruth’s lack of fear, her confidence and her attitude mean she’ll never really be easy prey. When she is submissive it’s her own choice. The wolf can’t make her do anything she doesn’t really want to. They will tease and torture each other to the bitter end. 

If you like it dark, rough and kind of messed up, I would absolutely bother with this quick read. Written incredibly well with characters you would absolutely play fuck, marry, kill with. Enjoy!
